Here my Mom shows us how to feed your “mother” or sourdough starter. Also, check out my crazy faces when getting a whiff of “the mother” in all of her goodness.

Mother Feeding the Mother

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour
  • Water in a bowl
  • Jar with parchment paper and rubber band
  • Chopstick for mixing

Instructions

  • For as much starter as you use, you have to replace it with the same amount.
  • Put flour in first, start mixing. Then add water. The consistency should be thicker half and half but not as thick as a milkshake.
  • A nice strong fermented starter works great!
  • If you are making bread once a week you can leave it out on the counter.  If you aren’t then you can store it in the fridge – feed about once a week.
